Yellow Perch Fishing Charters on Lake Erie

Our perch charters offer steady action, simple techniques, and great‑tasting fish — making them ideal for families, kids, and groups. As summer warms the Western Basin and schools move inshore, yellow perch provide fast, light‑tackle fishing that keeps everyone engaged.

Coe Vanna Charters operates from Wild Wings Marina, located just west of Port Clinton, Ohio. We fish productive areas throughout the Western Basin, where jumbo perch often school in large numbers.

Best Time for Perch Fishing

Perch fishing is productive from June through October, with the largest “jumbo” perch most common in September and October. During peak conditions, it’s possible to catch dozens — even hundreds — of perch in just a few hours.

The daily Ohio limit is 30 perch per person.

Perch fishing provides reliable action and mild, delicious fillets without the strong “fishy” taste, making it perfect for every family member regardless of age.

Trip Experience

We anchor or drift over active schools of perch, fishing the bottom with hand‑tied perch rigs tipped with emerald shiners. These simple rigs are easy for anglers of all ages to use, and it’s common to hook two perch at a time when the bite is strong.

How We Catch Limits

Light tackle is the key to successful perch fishing. A basic light rod and reel setup works well, especially when jigging or lightly moving the rig to attract fish. We recommend light braided line (8–10 lb test) for sensitivity.

One of the most effective techniques is the “quick bait return.” When you catch a perch, getting your bait back down quickly helps keep the school active. As perch spit out bait on the way up, it creates natural chum that draws more fish into the area — often triggering a feeding frenzy.

Yellow perch are considered one of the best‑tasting fish in Lake Erie, making these trips both fun and rewarding.
