Smallmouth Bass Fishing Charters on Lake Erie

Lake Erie’s Western Basin is known for some of the most reliable smallmouth bass action in the region. Our bass trips focus on the reefs and islands near Port Clinton, including the Bass Islands and the surrounding reef complex. These areas consistently produce five‑ to seven‑pound bass, with trophy fish even larger.

Best Months for Bass Fishing

Smallmouth bass fishing peaks from July through October. Warm water, stable weather, and active fish make this stretch of the season ideal for steady action. Late June can also produce excellent fishing as bass transition to summer structure.

Average smallmouth range from 2–4 pounds, with frequent catches in the 5–6 pound class. The Ohio state record — 8 pounds, 4 ounces — was caught right here in Lake Erie’s Western Basin.

Trip Style

We use light‑tackle casting and drifting techniques to target bass around reefs, rock piles, and island structure. Smallmouth are known for their explosive jumps, hard runs, and high‑energy fights — making them one of the most exciting species to catch on Lake Erie.

These trips are perfect for anglers who enjoy active, hands‑on fishing with plenty of opportunities to cast and work the lure. On many days, it’s common to handle 30–90 bass depending on conditions.
