Cold Weather Lake Erie Walleye Fishing Charters
Late Fall & Early Spring Walleye Charters from Port Clinton, Ohio
For some Lake Erie anglers, the fishing season doesn't end when the temperature drops. In fact, late fall and early spring can offer some of the most exciting opportunities to target big Lake Erie walleye.
Coe Vanna Charters offers specialized cold weather Lake Erie walleye fishing charters aboard our 24-foot Hewescraft. This unique boat allows us to extend the Lake Erie fishing season well beyond the time when many traditional charter boats have already been winterized and put away.
A Heated Lake Erie Charter Boat Built for Cold Weather
Our 24-foot Hewescraft is powered by a 300 HP Mercury and features a fully enclosed cabin with a thermostatically controlled heater. When the Lake Erie air turns cold, you can step inside, warm up and get comfortable before heading back out to fish.
The heated cabin can make a tremendous difference during November and December fishing and those first cold-water trips of early spring. Instead of spending the entire day exposed to freezing temperatures and wind, anglers have a warm, protected cabin available throughout the trip.
The Hewescraft comfortably accommodates four anglers. Five close friends or family members may also be accommodated when group size and passenger weight allow. For five-person trips, please call us so we can discuss your group before scheduling.
Fish Lake Erie Until the Ice Comes
One of the biggest advantages of this boat is that it does not require traditional seasonal winterization. That gives us the ability to continue offering Lake Erie walleye charters late into the season when weather, water and launching conditions permit.
We'll fish as late into the year as Lake Erie safely allows — and when winter finally releases its grip, we can get back on the water again in early spring.
That creates fishing opportunities during a part of the year that many anglers never experience.
Go Where the Lake Erie Walleye Are
Another major advantage of the Hewescraft is mobility.
Unlike our larger Lake Erie charter boats that normally operate from a permanent dock, the Hewescraft can be trailered to different launch locations. That means we're not necessarily waiting for the fish to come to us — we can move the boat closer to where the walleye are being caught.
Depending on current fishing reports, weather, lake conditions and available launches, trips may originate from areas including:
- Port Clinton
- Catawba Island
- Marblehead
- Huron
- Lorain
- Other productive Western and Central Lake Erie locations
Late-season and early-spring walleye don't always cooperate by staying in one location. Having a trailerable Lake Erie charter boat gives us the flexibility to select a launch based on where the better concentrations of fish are being reported.
Chasing Lake Erie's Trophy Walleye
Cold-water fishing has a special attraction for serious Lake Erie walleye anglers. Late fall and early spring can provide opportunities to encounter the large female walleye that make Lake Erie one of the premier walleye fisheries in the country.
There are never guarantees when it comes to fishing, especially during the colder months, but if your idea of a great Lake Erie fishing trip is bundling up, getting on the water when fewer boats are fishing and looking for that trophy walleye you've been waiting for, this may be exactly the charter you're looking for.
Interested in a Late Fall or Early Spring Lake Erie Walleye Charter?
These aren't necessarily trips you should book by simply picking a date months in advance. Cold-weather Lake Erie fishing depends heavily on weather, wind, water conditions, ice conditions, boat-launch availability and where the walleye are being caught.
That's why we encourage you to call Coe Vanna Charters and talk with us directly. Tell us when you're hoping to fish and how many anglers are in your group. We can discuss current conditions, where we're fishing and whether a late-season or early-spring Lake Erie walleye charter makes sense.
